Gary's suggestion about the size of the logfile does not apply to SE,
unless you are running out of disk space.
This is a little unlikely but worth a try: Is there a bit of the disk
that's corrupt? With only you on the machine you may be reusing the same
bit of disk. Try renaming a big log file and creating a new one. With a
bit of luck the renamed one might include the problem area.
Do you have plenty of kernel resources devoted to file locking? I forget
the name of the parameter? It's in the SCO admin guide.
Does the problem go away if you lock the table in exclusive mode before
doing the updates?
