BLOB space not freed

Quoting from the On-Line Administrators course text (with no personal experience at all with BLOBs to back it up!): "Because BLOB value are not buffered in the buffer cache, and because BLOB values are not written to the logical logs on disk, when a BLOB value is updated, its original image remains on disk until the associated logical log file is backed up to tape. Thus, if a BLOB value is updated, it is necessary to have enough space available to hold both copies of the value: the original value and the updated value. It is important to allow for this sort of overhead when creating BLOBspaces." Perhaps it is an invalid assumption, but I would think deleting a BLOB might have the same problem...keep it til logical logs are backed up. True? Gosh, if you have limited BLOB space/disk space, might be a good argument for smaller logical logs! Ann Barnes
