Re: migration

That's pretty much what we do on our Disaster Recovery exercises.
We use Mksysb backups, restore the root VG, which has the INFORMIXDIR directory and all the libs etc.. and all the information about the other volume groups.
Then I just relink to their raw devices and do an onbar restore.

We have always had great success with a fbackup and a restore to the new
server. We recently did this many times moving to a new data center. All
I had to do is have the new datacenter create the needed raw devices,
perform my links, fire off a physical restore.
way too simple.

9.40.FC5 Solaris 9.
We are being asked to move the database to a new server in a remote
location. Should I reinstall the informix software from cd or could we
just take it up with a tar or ufsdump or something and lay it down on the
new server? Our desire is to move the environment exactly as is changing
only those things that must be changed...
thanks in advance
