Hi, I'd like to a RAID-5 disk configuration in combination with Informix 7.30TC7. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it advisible or should I stick with just mirroring? All comments are welcome. Thanx. Edwin Hoogervorst Distel Software b.v. The Netherlands.

Striping IS good, and mirror is good, so RAID10 is best (stripped mirrored pairs). You can get great success using RAID3 or RAID4 if your RAID controllers support these. Configure all RAID sets with a small stripe block size (16-32K) rather than the huge (64-256K) block sizes recommended for filesystems. For details scan the CDI archives on the IIUG WEB site the the word RAID for many many discussions. Most dominated by me railing against RAID5 BTW ;-) Art S. Kagel
How is the dependability of the number of users and the size of the database. I'm talking about approx. 8 users and a database size of max.10 Mb. Is it still not advisible to use RAID-5 or is the performance decrease in that case no longer measurable? Edwin. Art S. At that size just use mirrored pairs or even Informix mirroring you WILL get better performance and it may even be cheaper than the manditory 3 drives for RAID5 to set up two drives one primary and one mirror.
