4GL 4.10 and 7.1 Online using Fourgen
Posted in 1995
I have read the Fourgen digest FAQ concerning upgrading from 4.10 4GL to 6.0, but my impression was that the information was restricted to accessing the database over a network. Basically I'm interested in anyone who has worked with the Fourgen Business-level accounting, and has used it to access a 7.1 Online database engine using a 4-level 4GL. Does a 4GL program running on the server machine really care whether there's a relay module or not? It would seem to be moot, as the engine would be running directly on the server, and talking to the fglgo process directly. I'm evaluating Windows development environments, and would really like to have the 7.1 network accessibility, but I don't want to break my current applications (there's a lot of custom apps as well). On a related subject, as another possibility, could I run two engines on the server, using my current 5.02 engine as the production server for my Fourgen and custom apps, and run a 7.1 online in another INFORMIXDIR as a development and testing environment until I can get everything migrated? Thanks in advance for your help. Mike Lemon Intabex-Hail & Cotton Intl.
