IDS 7.30 on Linux Tuning Benchmark?
Posted in 1999
I got some tuning questions for ya...
Environment: Linux Kernel 2.2.10 Distribution: SuSE 6.10
IDS 7.30.UC7 63048 Kybtes
Single CPU Pentium III 500 Mhz w/192 MB RAM
18 GB SCSI Seagate HD Adaptec 2940 Ctlr
The Problem: Loading large tables.
The Situation: No High Performance Loader in LinuxLand. Need to load approximately
100MB data into a table with a rowsize of 607
Indexes Dropped Before Load
I chopped up 100 MB Loadfile into 36 load files of 10,000 recs each.
Each loadfile is approx 282 MB pipe-delimited.
The Question: What is a reasonable expectation of loading a table of
this size in IDS 7.30 on Linux? Have any benchmarks been done?
Here are my benchmarks:
LoadFiles Size Each Rowsize Num Rows Indexes In Transaction Average Insert Time
36 282 MB 607 10000 none yes 10,000 recs in 7 seconds
or 1429 recs/sec
Total Rows Data Size After Load: Data Size Before Load:
359651 218308157.0 Bytes 101500761.00
I applied the "Kagel Krank" to the LRU's: LRUMAX 2 LRUMIN 1
Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.30.UC7 -- On-Line -- Up 00:13:36 -- 63048 Kbytes
Segment Summary:
id key addr size ovhd class blkused blkfree
8321 1381386241 10000000 13361152 1060 R 1624 7
8322 1381386242 10cbe000 51200000 1380 V 609 5641
8324 1381386244 13d92000 606208 608 M 67 7
Total: - - 65167360 - - 2300 5655
Is kind of load fast? slow? I have nothing to compare it with.
Any ideas? ( Compared to XPS it's a pooch! :-)
BTW, 1 Cleaner: LRU writes were 8723 Chunk Writes were 111322 No Fg Writes
I did an "onstat -z" before loading. 24 LLOGS at 1 MB each.
Personally I think it's a dandy little system, but I wonder how it compares
to NT or other UNIXes in the same hardware scene. Or even SE. I've done
some tinkering to get it this fast, but wouldn't mind if you told me it
either sucks mud or is a really fast load.
Thanks in advance,
:-)
