IDS 9.4 UC6 Solaris 7 Replication question

Hi All,
We have a current setup which is an IDS 9.4 UC6 running on Solaris 7.x.It has
a DR (primary + secondary server). All works fine and no problem at all.
However, I would like to ask the following.
1. Can we have a Primary server with Multiple Secondary servers? e.g. 2
Secondary servers which has the same setup (transaction log transfer)?
2. Can we have a Primary server connected to Secondary server connected to a
Third Server?
3. What are the best way or most accurate restore if the Primary server is
down? I am thinking of the following:
a. setting the secondary server into "standard mode" and run "ontape -b" and
transfer the data into primary (ontape -r)
b. from our Netbackup using onbar -r -time "date_time"
I hope someone from give me idea. I've never done a setup of 1 and 2.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
In IDS 9.4, there can be only one secondary server. You can not cascade.
Multiple secondary servers was introduced in IDS 11.
The best thing to do if the primary is down is to swap the
primary/secondary roles. Make the secondary into a primary (not standard)
and then bring up the old primary as a secondary.

Jack,
It should also be noted that if you do need to perform a restore to get the
original primary back online (say it is a hard crash or the primary was
offline long after the newest logical log it knew about has been rolled off
on the current primary) you need to perform a physical restore (ontape -p
or the equivalent onbar option) not a complete restore (ontape -r) or
point-in-time restore.

Hi Madison and Art, I really appreciate your inputs. It is very interesting from my end as I've never encountered this type of setup before. Kudos to you guys, I'm very much enlightened.
Hi Art/Madison,
Just additional question, If i perform a backup from the secondary, is my
procedure correct?.
Assuming the primary is down and unable to startup and needs restore.
on Secondary server.
1. set the secondary as primary server (onmode -d primary servername)
onstat -g dri (to check if it's already the primary server).
2. Perform a full backup via "ontape -s"
in Primary(which is now secondary) (which is down)
3. ontape -p (Physical restore for HDR)
I guess we got it all right? :)
Thanks once again.
