Two machines: SERVER Sun E4000 (Solaris 2.6) IUS 9.14.uc2 CLIENT Sun Ultra 2 (Solaris 2.6) Client SDK 2.01 Netscape Enterprise Server 3.51 CLIENT can utilize NSAPI webblade application to connect to SERVER, query database, and serve pages to user. However, unless SERVER is set to "trust" CLIENT (entry in SERVER:/etc/hosts.equiv), no command-line db connection utils (like esql) work; they just sit waiting for a connection. Why can the Webblade connect to the server without needing any entry in the rhosts file? What do I have to do to allow esql and friends to work the same way? The method I used to determine the point of failure is included below. Thanks in advance for any pointers, - Tony ----------- METHOD: I used esql and $INFORMIXDIR/demo/esqlc/demo1.ec (which comes with both the full db install and the SDK) to determine the cause of the connection wait: CLIENT:informix[114]# esql $INFORMIXDIR/demo/esqlc/demo1.ec CLIENT:informix[115]# ./a.out DEMO1 Sample ESQL Program running. Lana Beatty Frank Albertson Dick Baxter DEMO1 Sample Program over. [ removed "CLIENT informix" from file SERVER:/etc/hosts.equiv ] CLIENT:informix[118]# ./a.out DEMO1 Sample ESQL Program running. ^C [ program hung, had to control-C out]
