INFORMIX MOMENTUM BUILDS IN GROCERY INDUSTRY - SIX MAJOR GROCERS DEPEND ON INFORMIX FOR NEW APPLICATIONS Certified Grocers of California, H.E. Butt, Price Chopper, Randalls, Wegmans Food Markets, and Whole Foods Market New York, NY (January 14, 1997) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: IFMX), the leading provider of innovative database technology, today announced at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 86th Annual Convention and Expo that six major grocers have selected Informix database technology to support new applications. These customers include Certified Grocers of California, H.E. Butt, Price Chopper, Randalls, Wegmans Food Markets, and Whole Foods Market. At the NRF convention, Informix will be exhibiting its retail solutions in several of its partners' booths, including a demonstration of an Informix data warehouse, specifically focusing on the interests of grocers and drug retailers, in the Sequent booth (#971). "The grocery supermarket segment is one of Informix's strongest markets," stated Nadjya Ghausi, senior marketing manager of retail industries at Informix. "Our customers rely on the scalability, flexibility, and management ease of Informix's systems to improve efficiency of store operations, to effectively collect the right level of information in order to better understand customer purchase profiles, and to meet localized store demand." INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server has been chosen to support a broad range of enterprise applications, including accounting, distribution,merchandizing, and warehousing. Specifically, Certified Grocers of California, a wholesale grocery distribution cooperative, is currently going into production with INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server for three applications: INFORMIX-MetaCube Product Family for data warehousing, accounting applications from Lawson Financials, and point-of-sale applications from Bass. H.E. Butt, one of the largest regional food retailers in the U.S. with 230 stores, is standardized on the Informix platform and has added a number of new applications running on INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server. Price Chopper, a northeast supermarket chain with over 90 stores, is standardized on INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server and has added the Dallas-based warehousing/distribution system, and a customer marketing data warehouse. It is also running a data warehouse for analysis by category managers, and a store order review application based on Informix database servers. Randalls, an established Informix customer based in Texas, has recently added an Informix data warehouse for measuring promotional effectiveness through pricing analysis. This application is an addition to numerous custom applications developed using Informix's 4GL. Wegmans Food Markets, one of the largest private companies in the U.S. with 65 stores, is standardized on Informix's technology and has recently signed an agreement with Informix for a marketing data warehouse. Whole Foods Market, a national food retailer with stores in 18 states and Washington D. C. (i.e., Whole Foods Market, Bread & Circus, Fresh Fields, and Wellspring Grocery), has recently added several new applications in a move to complete its standardization on Informix technology, including a merchandizing application from Informix partner, JDA, a new payroll and benefits application from Performance Software, Inc., and a profit sharing system written by Infosphere.
