Overloaded stored procedures
Posted in 2003
I ran across an interesting issue today (Solaris 8, IDS 9.30UC1). A system had two different versions of a stored procedure in the DB, effectively overloading the procedure. Prototypes follow: PROCEDURE validatepins(INT,CHAR( 20),CHAR( 20),CHAR( 30),CHAR( 20)); PROCEDURE validatepins(INT,CHAR( 20),CHAR( 20),CHAR( 30),CHAR( 30),CHAR( 20),SMALLINT ); OK, no worries, but the procedure with 5 arguments was executed when the procedure was called from another stored procedure with 7 arguments: CALL ValidatePins(vSubId, lSubscriberPin, lParticipantPin, vAccNum, vHiddenNum, lCurrentAccCode,1) RETURNING Counter; I perused the "Creating User-Defined Routines and User-Defined Data Types" pdf file I found on google, which described routine resolution and would not think that the 5 argument definition should match the function call...but it appears that it does. Has anyone seen this before? Sam Gentsch Informix Database Evangelist 303.223.6641 Voyant Technologies, Inc. "The leader in group voice communication."
