The original question: >My client is going to pick up a used server for our group. The server >already has a Sybase SQL server on it, and we will probably need it. >The question is: can Informix and Sybase co-exist peacefully ? > > The server: Sun 670 > The OS: Sun OS 4.1 > The Sybase: SQL server 4.2 > The Informix: Informix 4.1 (probably) > >My sources tell me that Sybase SQL Server uses a daemon and raw disks >like Informix's Online. I assume that there will be no problem if we >use Informix SE. I am less certain about what will happen if we try >to put up an instance of Informix Online. Does anyone have any >experience mixing the two system? Any comment on my assumption about >SE ? The consensus: Haven't done it, but it shouldn't be a problem. Possible problem areas: Application libraries with the same name. Conflicting environment variables. Defining seperate resources (disk & shared memory & ip ports).
