Bulk loading an Informix database

For a large conversion project (about 1.5million records, to be converted to Informix overnight), we did some testing about 18months ago. Essentially, we found the quickest bulk-load was the Informix SQL "load" statement, with no indexes on the database table. This was at least four times the speed of the "dbload" utility. For safety, we split the load files into chunks of about 30thousand records.
