Hi, I'm having a strange problem on RH AS 3.0. I have a informix db server which was running without any problems all these days. yesterday, I had rebooted the server without bringing the db server offline. Now, if I start the dbserver, it doesn't come to online state.. the log has this in it's last line "Dynamically allocated new virtual shared memory segment ( size 8192KB) .=20 To cross verify that the updated packages of RH would have caused the problem, I created a new dbserver.. But that too doesn't get intialized and the log shows the same message. Last week, I had updated the all packages that were available using up2date.. Would that have caused the problem.. Is there any possibllity of any of the packages being related to informix. The informix version is 9.40.UC4 =20 Regards Jerome=20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ------- Telelogic DOORS XT: Requirements Management Anywhere & Everywhere Learn More at www.telelogic.com Jerome D'silva Technical Lead Telelogic India Pvt Ltd # 72, "Salarpuria Pearl", Civil Station, Residency Road Cross, 560 025 Bangalore INDIA Phone: + 91 80 51995800 Extn : 229 Fax: +91 80 25550024 Mobile phone: 9845320467 Jerome.Dsilva@telelogic.com http://www.telelogic.com Telelogic - Requirements-Driven Innovation! ------------------------------------------------------------- The information contained in this e-mail, including any attachment or = enclosure, is intended only for the person or entity to which it is = addressed and may contain confidential material. Hi Jerome, The Informix engine could be rolling back active transactions, and could take a while to come back online. If you have waited a sufficient length of time (depending upon how active your system is), I would re-attempt a reboot of the server. Well I
can suggest you few areas to look at :
1. Your engine initialization may have left hanging shared memory segments.
Clean them using "ipcs" command. ( do a man on ipcs to find out how to use it)
2. Never ever reboot a box without shutting down Informix first. Bad bad
practice.
3. Box reboot might have corrupted your informix binaries and you may have to
restore the engine from an archive (backup).
4. Before trying to bring the Informix up make sure there are no "oninit"
processors runing. Jut do a "ps -eaf | grep oninit".
Hope those help.
Ravi.
