I agree that the tools are good. Many sysadmins find IDS impenetrable before they're shown ISA and Server Studio. Our developers would very much like to switch to MS. However MSSQL2000 really wasn't up to the job in several key areas and was causing several severe support headaches while IDS just ran. So we've stayed with IDS, migrating our few MSSQL sites and we're now committed and it's a good thing IMHO. IDS is usually a pleasure to work with. Had MSSQL2005 have come out this time last year and been all that is promised we probably wouldn't be. As has been posted before MSSQL is where IBM should be concentrating their fiew IMHO. Cost is important for us and all our sites run WGE on Linux or Windows. One place where MSSQL loses is the need to buy Windows 200X Server which isn't cheap. IDS can run on Linux which to us is effectively free as we have the expertise on it. Now that IDS 10 supposedly requires enterprise editions of Linux it loses that cost advantage. In all truth we rarely use technical support so a supported environment is not really an issue so we shall probably run it on SuSE Pro. Ben.
