I don't know the answer, but the likely problems are (1) you haven't set up $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts, or (2) your program doesn't have the environment set up to identify the sqlhosts file (either $INFORMIXDIR is not set or $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS is not set), or (3) you have the incorrect permissions on your sqlhosts file (644 should be OK; 666 is dangerous but could be used to test that it is not a permissions problem).
