Re: Restores
Answered: amber (solid confidence) — Jacques Renaut (IBM Informix Advanced Support) explains that ontape's STDIO restore path skips the normal version-mismatch confirmation prompt (present for cold restores otherwise), which David confirms independently by recalling the 'Continue restore?' prompt; Jacques self-corrects an aside in the same message about EE/WE version parity. Neil's second sub-question (how to avoid this) is left only partially answered (no forced-restore flag exists), and Neil settles on his own theory that it is an 11.5-specific WGE/EE packaging change rather than getting final confirmation.
Advisory only.

Opps, never mind the part about EE and WE versions being the same.

Yes, I hit this and had to change my restore script, the last line of
the prompt is "Continue restore?"
Pity IBM do not just allow restores between compatible fix-packs
(harder to code I know - the "version" in the archive header should
only change
when it is not compatible to restore e.g. version 7 archive -> version
10) or just add a "yes i know what I am doing flag".
Also when will IDS get
- Compression for indexes, temp tables and inline blobs (like DB2)
- Scan sharing (like DB2)
- Ability to support Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle Packages and Catalogs (like
DB2)
- Ability for dropping a chunk to online move data to other chunks in
the dbspace (llike DB2)
- Pure XML (like DB2)
- ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE (online repartition of a table) like DB2.
- Shared nothing clustering (like DB2)
Notice a pattern here ??
- transportable table spaces like Oracle
- true cross platform restore like Sybase

If we detect a mismatch in version, we try to warn you that it doesn't match, and then if it's a cold restore we try to prompt if you want to go ahead and continue, and if you say yeah, it should go ahead and try the restore. However, in the case of using STDIO we don't do the prompt. That behavior looks to be the same in 11.10, 11.50, and 10.x. Since this used to work for you, could it be the first time you tried doing this using STDIO, if not, then I'm not exactly sure why you would start to see this (as I looked and I think the version we are checking would be the same for EE and WE) I just assume it's an 11.5 thing since, until 11.5, there were not separate install tarballs to download between WGE and EE.
