Searching a TEXT BLOB

We are currently running Informix ODS 7.23UC.1 on Solaris 2.51 multi CPU to support an internet commerce site and need a way to efficiently do searches on TEXT BLOB fields. From what I know, I can move to the Universal Server which allows searches on TEXT types, or add a text search engine (Verity). Can anyone share what they did in a similar situation and what might be involved? (Converting TEXT fields to a data type the Universal Server can work with along with application modifications) Is there a perfomance issue (Universal Server/search engine) that makes one method better than the other?
