Logical restore problem on ODS 7.23 (NT)
Posted in 1998
Hi,
I had a problem today concerning a cold restore with ontape
using ODS 7.23 TC3 on Windows NT.
A short description of what I did:
1. Had an OnLine Server with 4 DbSpaces, 2 of them marked as
temporary DbSpaces. I removed both backup files (TAPEDEV/LTAPEDEV).
2. I started my full backup
ontape -s -L 0
3. I created a new database with unbuffered logging.
4. I created a new table and filled the table with about 10,000 rows.
5. I started my logical backup using "ontape -c"
6. I removed my OnLine instance by "onmode -ky; oninit -iy"
and finally stopped the latest OnLine service.
7. Now I tried to restore the backup using "ontape -r"
( ordinary cold restore ).
The physical part of the restore worked properly, but the
logical restore terminated with a "Thread( ontape , ... ) error".
I think this is an internal error and I wonder, whether I
did something wrong or if I detected a new bug.
Without the logical restore everything worked fine, so the
problem is my logical restore.
BTW, "onlog -l -d C:\\IFMXBKUP\\IFMXBKLG.BAK" is able to read
and display the contents of my logical backup file.
Is there anybody out there who had the same problems ? Is
there a workaround like "ontape -p; ontape -l" ?
TIA,
Stefan Weideneder
