Hi, I need to know if intance A (primary)is replicating to instance b (secondary) on two different boxes, do I need to run alter statement on both or only on primary. I have to alter tables to row level locking from page level. So my question is do I run alters on both or just primary. This replication is only primary to secondary. Thanks, Sunita
You need to run alter statement only on Primary.
hi, you Jsu need to change it on Primary, As all transactions are getting replicated this also will get changed in secondary. Thanks Vamshi
Hi All, I would like to add something, As you know Secondary server/box in replication is in Read-Only mode. On primary server one can always give DDLs for create table, alter table but not on Secondary. Changes made on primary are applied to Secondary using Logical Logs. Thanks, Nilesh
Hi, Another thing to mention: DDL is replicated to the secondary without any problem (as is a chunk add e.g), but there might occur locks on the primary until the secondary instance has execute the DDL. We once had the problem the immediately after a create table, we got an error when altering that table (e.g. to add a foreign key). I am not sure which version we had at that time, and this problem might have been solved in the meantime.
