Adding a Chunk
Posted in 1998
We are doing the rather mundane task of adding a chunk to a dbspace. Unfortunately we have very little experience with Informix because we only use it for one application called Permits by Sierra. Additionally since Informix runs so well, we rarely have any problems and we only have update support. This is only the 2nd question in about 3 years. The Problem: In OnMonitor using Add-Chunk, I get the following error: The chunk /data/permdbs3 must have owner-id & group-id set to informix The Question: Are they saying change the security on the symbolic link or the disk itself? My Fear: If I change the disk protection per the error message, will it mess up the other dbspaces & chunks, or render them inaccessible to our users? Background Info: * The database is on a Digital Alpha 2100 * Operating software is: Digital Unix: 4.0b * Informix OnLine version 7.23 * The dbspaces are on a raw device called rre4c, a 1gb disk * We currenty have 2 dbspaces: permdbs & permdbs2 * Their symbolic links are: permdbs /dev/rre4c permdbs2 /dev/rre4c * permdbs2 is 97% full and currently only has one chunk * I initially tried to enter the pathname of the chunk as the pathname of the original chunk, I thought the pathname was for the dbspace path. Once I saw the error I created a Unix link. (ln -s /dev/rre4c permdbs3) * A long time ago, I was instructed to what turned out to be changing the security on the entire disk to one account. Not being a Unix user I didn't realize that what I had been told to type was absolutely wrong! The system manager has since changed things back as they are found, but this may be the reason that the disk is currently owned by root.
