ODS hangs on startup

Since I've upgraded to ODS 7.2, I've had this nagging problem when I bring the engine down and then restart it. It hangs on the way to quiescent mode. The log indicates event alarms enabled, then three VP processes start, then nothing. I control-c out of the process, take the engine offline and restart it. Eventually it will go past the point where it hangs and come up. Last night I had to do this twice after upgrading from 7.22 to 7.23. Nothing bad has happened yet, but I suspect this is about as prudent as suddenly disconnecting power from a UNIX system. What else could I watch to see where the initialization is hanging?
