Q:Informix in 2 node cluster
Posted in 1999
hi, I'd like to discuss with you an Informix cluster setup. Actually we have two node cluster each running separate database. If one node goes down then other one takes over and starts the second instance. So far it was ok and thus we saved ourselves from hardware failures (and they were). Password sync, backups, starts and stops are another subjects of discussion, well, IMHO Informix could put a little bit more effort on that... Now last week we had Informix crash and server recovery took 7 hours (it's _own_ recovery, when you just stare at logfile saying "logical recovery started" and stuff like that). 7 hours of unplanned downtime during working day! So my question is: can we set up a cluster with two permanently running instances on each node which replicates data to each other (as I said, databases on each node are different), so if something goes down (HP or Informix whatever) cluster package switches IP address and users can continue to work? Are there any pitfalls? Sorry for being so long, Ivars Strazdins SRS network administrator
