Help! Intermittant 408 Informix JDBC Driver errors

I hope someone can help with the following problem: I have a servlet that uses the informix ifxjdbc.jar driver classes to connect to a v7.23.UC4 informix database server. It works fine most of the time. However, in the past few days we've experienced bizarre problems that seem to last about 30 minutes. I have very little to go on in solving the problem. I get the following error when trying to connect to the database: java.sql.SQLException getErrorCode(): -408 getSQLState(): IX000 However, I can connect to the database using other drivers. Also, the informix driver works fine against other informix databases, so it seems that the problem is only affecting a specific database/driver combination. Database logs show no errors, so I'm not convinced it is even making it to the database. Are there any known problems of this nature out there? Has anyone else seen this or have any idea what may be happening. The problem always seems to fix itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I installed Informix JDBC1.22 and JDK1.1.7b, but I got an error 'No suitable driver' when I ran SimpleConnection included in the JDBC demo. Any suggestion to resolve this please.
