Q: I-4GL string to blob conversion

Our i-4gl programmer left, we haven't replaced him yet. I know little about i-4gl. Here's the problem: We have a paradox table that is being converted to Informix. On the paradox table is a text field. The text field is delimited by " (double quotes.) Is there an easy way (without resorting to a C program) to put that text string into a blob column defined as text on Informix Online 7.10.UD1 using i-4gl 6.01.ud1. Let blob-field = "This is a string" doesn't seem to work. I have a rather long fax from Informix explaining how to do it using a C program, but I was wondering if there was an i-4gl-only solution.
