RTF, or PostScript may be alternatives

Depending on the user's environment and on his/her needs, another alternative is Microsoft RTF coding, very like TeX, based on plain ASCII token. (diacritical characters must be filtered and coded in Hex : in French we have e acute, a grave and so on ... ) I have just completed a project including this feature and it works great. This RTF format (do not confuse with DCA-RFT) can be used as input to some Aldus' Desktop Publishing greatest hits. This solution adds the possibility of editing, annotating the final document. And if graphics is a major aim, why not PostScript, it is not *very* difficult ? As most software do, they first define a set of one letter command once, in a sort of header file then the coding is very easy such as : 100 100 m, after a : \\m moveto def (If you have a PS printer of course, but it begins to be very commonplace)
