i assume you are using shared mem connections;
if so you may need to do something about the kernel.
semmnu comes to mind -->> check the rel notes for it.
and try and set
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,150,CPU
for now try use tcp connections.
it should be tcp_govaerts
please check your sqlhost file
-----------
tcp_govaerts <yourhostname> onsoctcp <someservice or a free number>
---------
set your INFORMIXSERVER env var to it
export INFORMIXSERVER=tcp_govaertsrun your program and make sure it does use tcp_govaerts.; check if you
can get more then 50 connections.....

I did some testing with that parameter here on our system. And it has
something to do with it.
Until now our customers where not using so much programs and so the problem
did not happen.
And I wasn't aware of these parameter. I have no time to read the whole
manuel, but I should.
I want to thank everybody who gave me some advice.
Thanks,
Danny

example:
NETTYPE soctcp,2,150,NET
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,100,CPU
NETTYPE allocates certain resources for connections to the instance.
If you're using a network connection (soctcp inthe example above), the
total number of connections (poll threads * number of connections)
would equal 300. For network connections, this is a starting point;
Informix will allow you to add more than 300 total.
Shared memory connections (ipcshm) aren't so forgiving. The example
above will allow 100 SHM connections; the 101st will hang . . . .

All it takes is . .
1. User makes connection.
2. Connection is slow, system is busy, SQL is not correct.
3. User makes another connection.
4. ((( lather, rinse, repeat)))

The manuals are pretty good. They also mention what the default value
would be if it the parameter isn't set . .. .
