icc@injersey.com offerred: +I've talked to an Informix software engineer today, who has been assigned to +our problem since we've become a squeeky wheel. She indicated that in 7.30 if +there is a thread problem then the thread will be pulled down and *not* the +engine. Also, she indicates that more detailed diagnostic information will be +available. + +QUESTION: does this sound bogus? Not at all. One of the professed objectives with 7.30 was to avoid having the server bring itself down except when absolutely necessary. Prior to this release, a problem with any thread would likely cause the server to panic and shut down, even if the problem was non-critical. In 7.3, they tried to narrow down those situations that necessitated a server shutdown. So now, a problem with a thread will cause the thread itself to terminate, but the server will stay up.
