Logs & ANSI compliance

Hi, I am wondering if continuous logical log backups keep appending to the tape. How about automatic backups? For example, if I want to use the automatic method of backing up logs and say I back up logs 1 & 2, and then a while later I want to backup logs 3 & 4 would I have to: A) use a new tape B)use a no rewind device C) just keep on performing log backups. Also, regarding ANSI databases, are they supposed to be single user databases? I know that's a stupid question, but I often can't do dbschema's while I have another informix process running.
