sqlca interface and "set lock mode"

PowerBuilder uses a sqlca transaction object to connect to Informix 7.3. Does anyone know how the "set lock mode to wait" values can be set from this interface? They do not run any direct SQL statements, Powerbuilder generates everything for them. Otherwise, can this be set/forced at the server level or through the setnet32 interface? Thanks..
