This is normal if you're talking about the systables table which doesn't
get updated until you do an update statistics.
However the sysmaster database (in versions 7.x) always has up-to-date
information without having to update statistics. Look into the systabinfo
table, as in:
select ti_nrows
from sysmaster:systabnames systabn, sysmaster:systabinfo systabi
where systabn.tabname = ? and dbsname = ?
and systabi.ti_partnum=systabn.partnum
The oncheck utility also seems to retrieve current information.
