[Q] Informix stored procedures, through Access ODBC
Posted in 1995
I have to do some complex querying on an Informix database through a front end. Since I need to load a flat file, as some of you have pointed out, I am writing a stored procedure in Informix, that takes care of the query. Now I believe, I can call the stored procedure through an Access SQL Pass-through Query with a statement like EXECUTE PROCEDURE, which will execute all the various queries and load the incoming ASCII data into an Informix database. I do however, need to report the results on the Access front end, and I want it to be refreshed. I understand that SQL passthrough queries take snapshots only. I think I will just have to run it repeatedly against the stored procedure, which will have an SPL WHILE loop to reexecute the queries. IS this approach a good way to do this? I can have the Access SQL passthrough query put the result in a report and put a refresh button that will refresh the data on manual intervention. The stored procedure will just keep excuting a multi join against an existing table and the new data coming in from the ASCII flat file. I am going to do this today, any comments would be much appreciated. -- Saqib Mausoof -------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a hard enough time speaking for myself, so speaking on behalf of my employer is out of the question.
