Hello guys, At the following scenario i have 2 servers with informix ids 11.10 each. in server 1 were created all users and the app update all databases. certain tables have triggers that do insert on databases in server 2, but the user must be created in this server. Server 1 has many users and is growing, i don´t wnat to create every user from server 1 on server 2. Is there any way to do this without create users in server 2? thanks a lot
Not in 11.10, no. Art Art S. I would need to run some tests... But since version 7.x we have two kinds of stored procedures. Owner mode and user mode procedures. I believe most people may don't even know about them, but a owner mode procedure is one created like "CREATE PROCEDURE myproc()...." and a user mode is created like "CREATE PROCEDURE "someuser".myproc()" by a user who is not "someuser". They behave differently in the sense that a owner mode procedure executes remote actions as the user who created the procedure. A user mode procedure will do remote operations as the user who runs the procedure. So, if you're still following me, with a OWNER mode procedure running your remote update you could possibly solve your problem (by calling the procedure in the trigger). I must admit I'm not sure how the "authentication" will handle this, but hopefully only the procedure owner would need to be known and trusted in the remote system. BUT there were recently some bugs regarding all this and everything would need to be verified (specially taking into account you're using 11.10). You can create a test scenario in your environment (create a test table, a test procedure and grant access to the remote table just to the procedure owner). Please report your findings. Next week I may have some time to look into this. Of course, if this works you'd loose the identity of who did the initial action... on the second server you'd only see one identity... Regards.
