User asked how to safely determine if the BTS (Blade Technology Set) blade is actually in use on Informix IDS 12.10.FC12 before unregistering it. Resolution: check sysindices for BTS indexes (amid > 1); if none exist, BTS isn't being used. Unregistering is also safe as Informix has safeguards. Note: sysbld* tables may remain after unregistration and should be manually removed if not needed by other blades.

I'm having some issues with the BTS blade that would go away if BTS were not
installed (duh). I think that no BTS functionality is actually being used...
But, is there some way I can determine, for sure, whether it is "safe" to get
rid of BTS?
Thank you.

I can search every SPL for every function in the blade API.
Just wondering if there is any other "magic".
DG
David,
Also check that there are no BTS indexes built. Not easy to find without
parsing through the entire schema, but a quick query into
sysindices "where amid > 1" should point you in the right direction.
(We only have 1 BTS index, and the amid = 104).
Thanks,
Michael

Thank you for the mentioning this.
I checked and, according to sysindices, there are zero bts indexes. Every
single existing entry in sysindices has amid = 1.
I would conclude from this that I have nothing to fear in de-registering the
BTS blade. I think that any actual use of BTS requires creating a bts index on
the appropriate column(s).
Is this correct?
Thank you.
DG
As far as I have seen, yes that is correct -- a BTS index must exist to use
any BTS functionality.
I also think Informix has safeguards against unregistering the blade if it is
being used. So you should be safe either way.
One thing to note, unregistering the blade does not always remove all the new
blade tables. Look for any remaining sysbld* tables after the unregister and
delete them.

Thank you, Michael, for your information and suggestion.
I checked and there are about a half dozen sysbld* tables remaining. I
hesitate to remove them because I have one remaining blade installed, and
maybe one or more of those tables are used by it.
Not removing all the stuff it should seems similar to Windows applications
that leave dregs in the registry. Very annoying.
