Most likely you don't have the environment set correctly. On many platforms, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable needs to be set to include $INFORMIXDIR/lib and $INFORMIXDIR/lib/esql. On the other hand, some platforms don't need any such environment setting, and still others use a different name (SHLIBPATH on HP-UX, for example). Simple test: can you compile and run any ESQL/C program on your DEC platform, such as the example just below (possibly with a change of database name). If not, then this hypothesis is probably correct. If you can, then the problem is more devious. int main(void) { EXEC SQL WHENEVER ERROR STOP; EXEC SQL DATABASE stores; puts("OK"); return 0; } Also, consider compiling with static libraries. But, preferably, avoid doing this; it uses up both system memory and disk space (and the former is more valuable than the latter).
