Looking for Searchable Databases
Posted in 1994
howdy, i am trying to compile a list of searchable databases and their subject matter. if you administer, maintain, or know of any database that can be accessed by people (free or commercial) via the internet or dial-in connections, i would appreciate some input. ideally, i would like to have the following information for each database: 1. name of the database or organization administering the database 2. subject matter the database contains 3. search capabilities (by name, by company, by hair color, whatever) 4. connection types accepted (telnet, gopher, wais, modem dial-in, etc) 5. fees (if any) 6. access restrictions (if any) 7. specialized requirements (software, hardware, whatever) no database too large or too small to be included. no subject too serious or silly to be included. mainly this list is for the organization i work for to become aware of the databases that we can potentially access. if i get a realistic response, and if interest is high enough, i'll post the list in a month or so. if people send updates, i'll post updates too (i think i just volunteered to be a list maintainer). if you know of any list(s) similar in nature to this, please point me to them. feel free to distribute this invitation to anyone you think may have something to contribute that wouldn't see it in this forum. doug. -- Doug Greenwald DougGreenwald@oai.org Unix and Network Administrator (216) 962 3145 ICOMP, Ohio Aerospace Institute, NASA Lewis Research Center
