How to disable compression?
Posted in 2017
Topics: General Discussion
Hello,Does anyone know the reverse command of this one:
execute function sysadmin:task("enable compression");
I tried this: execute function sysadmin:task("disable compression");
but it didn't work and came back with "unknown command" in the log file.
Thank you!Kern -- Let's go GreenThis email contains 100% recycled electrons.
You don't disable compression.
In fact 'enabling compression' only was relevant in 11.50.xC4/xC5, as far=20
as I recall, to make them different from (pre-compression) xC3 which they=20
otherwise wouldn't have been. From 11.50.xC6 onwards you'd be with a new=20
internal version anyway.
The only case where you'd need this 'reversion' would be going back to a=20
pre-11.50.xC4 version ... which we hope won't be on your mind ;-)
Hope this clarifies your question.

Hi Andreas,Thank you for your reply. Sorry I forgot to include that I'm
running 11.70.UC2TL on CentOS release 6.5 (Final).This is just a test that I'm
playing with, but in real life, I would never implement any feature that turns
on something and have no way of turning it off, I guess I'm still not so clear
about this.
... from my online.log file ...
16:33:14 Enable compression succeeded
16:33:47 Unknown command (disable compression).

In version 11.50, the enable compression command would make
a change some internal structures, but when upgrading to any
newer version 11.70 or 12.10 this change was include. So in
version 11.70 the enable compression exists so it will not break
existing scripts, but is a no-op. It does not do anything.
