I had the same problem when I migrated to 7.12 but on AIX 3.2.5.
You need to create the kaio device, with the command:
/usr/sbin/mkdev -l aio0
You need to do this every time the computer boots, or you can
place and entry in the /etc/inittab file, like this:
kaio:2:wait:/usr/sbin/mkdev -l aio0
