Completing a Custom Installation

A custom installation allows you to choose:

Additionally, you must perform certain tasks depending on which components you plan to install. These tasks are outlined in the following sections.

Tasks for the Web Component

The tasks you need to complete when installing the Web component are:

    1. choosing which Web server to use with Universal Web Connect.

    2. choosing which Netscape Web server to use, if you have more than one.

    3. choosing the destination directory for the Web driver.

    4. choosing whether to reconfigure or copy over files, if you are upgrading or reinstalling.

    5. completing the Universal Web Connect Administration Tool configuration.

    6. specifying a directory for the Universal Web Connect documentation.

    7. finishing the installation.

Tasks for the Database Component

The tasks you need to complete when installing the database component are:

    1. choosing whether to reconfigure or copy over files, if you are upgrading or reinstalling.

    2. specifying where to create the Universal Web Connect repository.

    3. finishing the installation.

In the following sections, icons identify whether a task must be completed for the Web component, the database component, or both.

Choosing the Universal Web Connect Destination Directory

This section explains how to choose a directory for the Universal Web Connect files.

To choose the destination directory of the Universal Web Connect files

    1. In the Choose Destination Directories for the INFORMIX-Universal Web Connect page, the directory in which your Informix products are currently installed is displayed by default. Click Browse to choose a different directory.

    If you are not sure which directory you need, look at the INFORMIXDIR environment variable in SetNet32.

    2. Click Next.

    The Select Components page appears.

Choosing Components to Install

You can choose which of the Universal Web Connect components, and their elements, to install. The elements provided by each of the Web and database components are listed in the section "Your Application Package".

To select which elements to install

    1. In the Select Components page, select the elements you want to install. You can select any combination of the Web Files or Database Files elements.

    If you select Web Files, element options appear, including:

    2. Click Next.

    3. If you are installing the Web component and your Web servers are running, a Question page asks if you want to shut them down. Click Yes to shut down the Web servers. Click No to cancel the installation.

    The next few dialog boxes you see depend on which components you are installing:

Choosing the Netscape Web Server

If you are installing the Web component and have more than one Netscape server installed on your system, you must choose which one to use for your Universal Web Connect applications.

To choose the Netscape Web server to use with Universal Web Connect

    1. In the Choose Netscape Web Server page, select a server.

    2. Click Next.

    The Choose Destination Directory for Web Driver page appears.

Choosing the Web Driver Destination Directory

Although it provides support for Netscape FastTrack Server, Netscape Enterprise Server, and Microsoft Internet Information Server, Universal Web Connect can be used with any Web server.

To choose the Web driver destination directory

    1. In the Choose Destination Directory for Web Driver page, the default directory is shown. Click Browse to select a different directory.

    2. Click Next.

    3. Click OK.

    The next page you see depends on whether you are installing Universal Web Connect for the first time or upgrading it:

Upgrading or Reinstalling Universal Web Connect

The installation program checks to see if Universal Web Connect has already been installed and configured on your system. If it has been installed, the INFORMIX-UWC Reconfigure Options page appears and provides you with these options:

    This option erases the existing Universal Web Connect configuration and reinstalls and reconfigures the product. This process disables applications that were built and installed to run with the existing version of Universal Web Connect.

    This option updates the binary executables, dynamic link libraries, and other files used by Universal Web Connect and leaves the repository and configurations intact.

To upgrade Universal Web Connect

    1. In the INFORMIX-UWC Reconfigure Options page, choose an upgrade option.

    2. Click OK.

    The next page you see depends on the component you are installing:

Configuring the Universal Web Connect Administration Tool

You can specify the user name and password that users of the Universal Web Connect Administration Tool can use when they log on.

To configure the Universal Web Connect Administration Tool

    1. In the UWC Admin Tool page, the default user name and password are shown. If you want users of the UWC Administration Tool to use a different user name and password, type new ones in the appropriate text boxes.

    2. Click Next.

    The next page you see depends on the components you are installing:

Specifying the Universal Web Connect Repository

To run AppPage Builder, you must install the AppPage Builder schema in your database repository.

To create the Universal Web Connect repository

    1. In the Specify Universal Web Connect Repository page, the default blobspace is shown. If you want to install using a different blobspace, type the name in the Blob name text box.

    2. In the Directory text box, the default directory is shown. If you want the blobspace to reside in a different directory, type the directory in the Directory text box.

    3. Click Next.

    The next page you see depends on which components you are installing:

Schema creation can fail if one of the initial criteria for establishing the database server and connectivity set forth earlier in this manual is not met.If the installation fails while creating the AppPage Builder schema, you should reinstall the product. However, it is possible to rerun the schema setup without running the installation program by executing a Windows NT Batch (.BAT) program, called SETUPAPB.BAT, residing in the %INFORMIXDIR%\APB directory.

To rerun repository configuration after an unsuccessful installation

    1. Launch the INFORMIX Command-Line Utilities program by choosing it from Informix Administration ToolsPrograms in the on Windows NT Start Menu.

    2. Move into the APB subdirectory in the INFORMIXDIR directory:

    3. Execute the SETUPAPB.BAT batch file:

All of these arguments must be specified with the SETUPAPB batch program for it to work correctly.

Choosing the Documentation Destination Directory

You can specify the directory in which to place documentation for Universal Web Connect.

To specify the destination directory for Universal Web Connect documentation

    1. The Copy Universal Web Connect Documentation page shows the default directory for the documentation, %INFORMIXDIR%\uwc-doc. Click Yes to install the documentation in this directory. Click No to choose a different directory.

    2. If you are choosing a different directory, the Documentation Destination Directory page appears. Click Browse to choose a directory.

    3. Click Next.

    The Installation Information Summary page appears.

Finishing the Installation

This section describes the final tasks you need to complete to successfully install Universal Web Connect.

To finish the installation

    1.

    The Installation Information Summary page describes your installation choices. If they are correct, click Next.

    A series of message boxes and pages appear as the installation program completes each step, including shutting down the Web and database servers.

    2.

    The installation program checks if a current or previous version of Client SDK exists on the system. If one exists, an information page appears, warning you that another version is detected:

    If your logical log capacity is low, an information page appears, instructing you to back up your logical log. See "Preparing the Database Server" for instructions. Click OK when you are finished.

    4.

    The Setup Complete page gives you the option of reading the Release Notes file. Uncheck the check box if you do not want to read the Release Notes file.

    5. Click Next.

    The Restart Computer page appears.

    6. Click Yes or No.

    You should select Yes so that the configuration changes made by the installation program take effect immediately.

After completing these steps, installation is complete. See Chapter 3, "The Completed Installation," for information on configuring and starting Universal Web Connect.
