Can't get an alarm program to work with my linux IDS 7.30.U I took an INFORMIX SA class and it worked fine there using solaris IDS. I created a cheap little perl script like so ... #!/usr/bin/perl open(ALARMERR,">> /home/dja/rpt/alarm.err"); print ALARMERR join("\\n",@ARGV),"\\n"; close(ALARMERR); exit 0; Set ALARMPROGRAM in my onconfig like so ALARMPROGRAM /home/dja/bin/alarm.pl restarted my instance AND NOTHING WORKS ! the program never runs what the F ? this worked in the class, any clues ? does it have to do with the backup device, transaction logging ? OK, I'll try to make this simpler. I named my alarm program "t.sh"
Here is the source
pwd > /tmp/t.err
exit 0
Two simple lines of code to redirect the output of "pwd" to a file in
/tmp. Each and every time an event pops, regardless of the severity,
I should get a file called 't.err' in /tmp
my alarm program has these permissions
-rwxrwx--- 1 informix informix 31 Dec 20 11:41 t.sh
I restart my instance and see these messages come through online.log
notice that it appears to be agreeing that /home/dja/bin/t.sh is the
alarmprogram
11:41:56 Event alarms enabled. ALARMPROG = '/home/dja/bin/t.sh'
11:42:02 DR: DRAUTO is 0 (Off)
11:42:03 Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.30.U Software SerialNumber AAC#
J624843
11:42:03 Informix Dynamic Server Initialized -- Shared MemoryInitialized.
11:42:03 Physical Recovery Started.
11:42:03 Physical Recovery Complete: 0 Pages Restored.
11:42:03 Logical Recovery Started.
11:42:05 Logical Recovery Complete. 0 Committed, 0 Rolled Back, 0 Open, 0 Bad Locks
11:42:05 Dataskip is now OFF for all dbspaces
11:42:05 On-Line Mode
11:42:06 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
11:42:21 Logical Log 631 Complete.
YET THE PROGRAM NEVER RUNS !!! I DO onmode -c and onmode -l AND I
NEVER GET A FILE /tmp/t.err !!
What the hell is this nonsense all about ? I am running Red hat 5.1
with kernel 2.0.36

Don't know, permissions on /tmp? Seems unlikely. ALARMPROGRAM always
works for me. Been using it since 7.11.

informix did not have write permissions on the directory where my alarm program resided. Strange because you don't need directory write permissions to execute a program in that directory. I opened it up and now it works Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
