fast adding new fragment(partition) definition
Art and Informix lab, We have a wish! Just for demonstration, suppose a BIG table tab(int Date, int b) ...... fragment by expression partition p1 a<"2000-01-01" in dbs1 partition p2 a>="2000-01-01" and a<"2001-01-01" in dbs1 partition p3 a>="2001-01-01" and a<"2002-01-01" in dbs2 partition p4 a>="2002-01-01" and a<"2003-01-01" in dbs2 partition p5 a>="2003-01-01" and a<"2004-01-01" in dbs3 partition p6 a>="2004-01-01" and a<"2005-01-01" in dbs3 partition p7 a>="2005-01-01" and a<"2006-01-01" in dbs4 partition p8 a>="2006-01-01" and a<"2007-01-01" in dbs4 partition rmd remainder in dbs0 Next year, We will add a new fragment, some thing like, partition p9 a>="2007-01-01" and a<"2008-01-01" in dbs5 Based on my current testing, adding a such kind of new empty fragment takes a significant amount of time! I watched , looks it scans all other fragments( NOT ONLY remainder)to do it. Since all the fragments are non-overlapped, adding such new fragment definition should be very fast. I REALLY hope this could be done online quickly, not locking table with long time, since we rely on this feature to live! Quman
What happens when you dettach the rmd partition, attach the p9 partition and then attach the rmd partiontion?
