Accessing Informix with PHP3 and with Perl

We are trying to build a web application that will enable the interrogation of an Informix 4gl database, running under SCO Unix Openserver 5, from an Apache server on another computer running Linux Mandrake. We have tried two separate approaches to this problem but are stymied on both. One involved setting up PHP3 as an Apache module on the Linux machine. The problem we have here is that when the PHP is configured, we have to supply it the Informix variable with a path. It cannot find the path because the Informix setup is on a separate machine, which at that point is accessible only via ftp or telnet, and not present in the local environment. The error message thrown at the end of the install is: "WARNING: You asked for Informix support, but don't have $INFORMIXDIR environment value set up. Configuring and compiling Informix support to PHP3 is impossible and has been turned off. Please try again after setting up your environment." In a PHP forum, someone advised us to try downloading an "Informix Client Library" and installing that on the Linux machine. But when we visited the Informix site we could find no trace or pointer towards such an animal. Does it exist? Our Perl problem is similar. In order to query the Informix database using Perl Cgi modules and HTML forms, we need to install the appropriate database driver, specified in ur Perl manuals as DBD::Informix. But once again, after having thoroughly searched the site at www.informix.com/, we can find no trace of this database driver for love or money. So, can anyone advise us on Web interactivity with Informix using either PHP3 or Perl, and on where to look for our missing parts? Many thanks, Elisa Francesca Roselli and Gregory Losson
Thanks to everyone for your help on this. We have found the missing parts and are now looking into getting the libraries and environment variables fixed up. We should be making progress, soon. Elisa Roselli
