IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC9 Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 we are using dbmoto to transfer data to sequal server. Dbmoto creates tables in the dbspace where the db is created. We cant configure dbmoto to create tables in space of our choice Is there a way in informix that we can get tables to be created in a dbpace based on the user ?

Hi KARL, Tables are created by default in the dbspace where the database was created unless you say differently when you create the table or an index for that matter. If you want to create your tables in dbspaces based on the user, you have to write your own script in a shell script for example with the user name as a parameter. I do not know if that is what you want. As far as your dbspaces, they have to exist before table creation. Then again, your script can do that job assuming that chunks have already been created at the OS level. You cannot however configure the engine to do it automatically. I do not know how dbmoto works but since dbmoto is a client to the database engine, how about using the sysdbopen function when the dbmoto tool opens the database; you can try to create the dbspace based on the user name using the task functions provided by the sysadmin database. This is an idea but will it answer your need, I do not know. Even if that works, you have to have chunks created for each user unless you want to group users in a preset number of dbspaces. What version of DBMOTO are you using? We use DBMOTO to replicate data from Informix to SQL Server. The newer versions of DBMOTO do not create tables on Informix. It uses Change data capture.
