I believe you always have to include in the select any columns in the order by.
What I do in this instance in a 4GL is make the unwanted columns the end of my
columns selected then in my fetch or foreach INTO is not have any variable for
them:
Ex
DECLARE c_cursorname FOR
SELECT a.column1,a.column2.a.column3
from tablename a
ORDER BY 3,2,1FOREACH c_cursorname INTO vara,varb
Do SOMETHING
END FOREACH;
