Are you backing up to tape or disk? I backup to disk using ontape (-c) and have no problems. I can't find the option that allow me to backup on the hard drive. When typing ontape -c or -a, the programm asks me to mount the tape. What do you type exactly to backup on your HD ? Ontape was written with tape devices in mind but it works fine with disk backups. Just set the LTAPEDEV to the file path, bounce the engine if you made the change using an editor (only onmonitor can change the in-memory copy of that parameter that ontape -c or -a looks at), and run ontape. When you are prompted to mount the tape just make sure the file exists and is writable by informix and group informix and hit return.
