This is a rapidly growing field with new products coming to market frequently. Database queries, insertions, edits, and deletes can be made live to a table in your database via Common Gateway Interface CGI scripts. These scripts are the basis of the new software packages. They basically construct HTML versions of forms for the web client to input data, and then construct HTML forms on the fly with output data, e.g. the record(s) resulting from a query. Two major products in this area are dbWeb and Cold Fusion. I don't know about whether they work with UNIX. See the Dec' 95 issue of DBMS magazine at www.dbmsmag.com for additional information. Then it's a process of checking out products to see if they do what you want. That's what I'm doing now. Alan Z. Scharf GrapeVine Systems New York City
