Problem with TSS

I've read the appendix to the Informix faq with regards to Temporary String Space (TSS). I think I know where my problem is, but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'm running an extraction from an accounting database. Each record has a description which, when concatenated, can be up to 4800 characters, but usually is between 100 and 1,00 characters. Embedded in each description is a code surrounded by curly braces. I need to extract this code to place in field #6, but the description is printed at the end (field #19). My code to do this follows: ... #--Concatenates each description line to a global variable "tmp_dsc" CALL fnd_dsc(p_timecard.tindex, "T") IF tmp_dsc IS NOT NULL THEN CALL fnd_code(tmp_dsc) #--Searches through the description # for open curly brace END IF PRINT task_cd, delim, delim, delim, p_timecard.tworkdt,delim, p_timecard.tbillhrs USING "###&.&&",delim, delim, delim, p_timecard.tbillrt, delim; IF p_timecard.tbilldol<0 THEN PRINT p_timecard.tbilldol USING "#####&.&&",delim, "-", delim; ELSE PRINT p_timecard.tbilldol, delim, delim; # - Not USING because then # I run out of TSS END IF PRINT tmp_dsc CLIPPED I think the answer is that I can't use the same variable (tmp_dsc) to perform two functions. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Don Semmens Richmond, VA unixfan@aol.com or don@mwbb.com
