Richard, I can't find the file /etc/sysctl.conf on my system. There is a file /etc/sysconfig/sysctl but when we tried editing that it didn't do the job. My Linux Sysadmin is very inexperienced, and I suspect has never re-linked a kernel. regards Malcolm Dr. Richard Spitz <Richard.Spitz@med.uni-muenchen.de> wrote in message news:<domm90536epk4667epg0kgilcd76i3rf4k@4ax.com>... > malcolm.weallans@btopenworld.com (malcolm) wrote: > > >After a great deal of struggling I have discovered that Suse Linux > >kernel parameters can be set in the /etc/rc.d/boot.local file.
