4GL display problem with redirecting stderr
Posted in 2000
We were having problems with BUG 103444 where when you redirect the stderr output( fglgo xxx.4gi 2>err.log) you get a lot of "OOPS" and garbage data(the intended output with missing characters here and there) on the screen. Then informix send us the fixed version 4GL RDS 7.20 UE 2. They fixed the "oops" alright , but the garbage display is still the same . After talking to informix , the reply was that informix is now using standard unix calls to the termcap files ( as opposed to previously using their own routines. ) and that redirection can have unexpected results, this is normal behaviour now and i will not be fixed. Is nobody else using stderr redirection , do we realy have to live with that ???. the test prog. main define i smallint for i = 1 to 100 display "record up to " ,i at 10,10 end for if you run mserver:> fglgo test.4gi i get a display at 10,10 of <record up to 100> if you run mserver:> fglgo test.4gi 2>err.log a display starting at 1,1 <record up to 19 29 39 49 59 69 70 89 99 100 mserver:> > Is that what informix calls normal behavior ???? Please tell me that is not true Ralf Peters
