Hi... I need some clues... Hope you can help. When I try doing backup using Onbar in the local host, it succeed. But when I try in another server, it doesn't work. When I do "ism_startup -init" the message sounds similar like this : Another storage manager is running, it conflicts with ISM...bla..bla..bla..." Also it doesn't recognise ISMData and ISMLog pool name. Any idea why does it happen? And how the conclusion? We're using Informix IDS 9.21 and Sun Microsystem E450. After I do the backup, how often should I do it? Or is there a way to run backup automatically in sheduling? Thank you very much. -- Best Regards, Chelsia

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do.
Just sent your onconfig file, the online.log file and the bar_act.log file.
Maybe I'll be able to help you...

You have to do it as soon as your database changes.
If you only import some data in once, just do a level 0 backup after it's done.
If your database is changed live, do a backup once a day...
Keep in mind that if your database crash, you'll lost everything that was done
between the last backup and the crash.
I personnaly backup my database every day. Maybe a level 0 backup per week, and
a level 1 every day can do it.
It really depend on how you use your database. Have a look to the answer online
documentation. There is a special PDF about backup strategy with onbar.
Finaly, on UNIX, the probably best way to automate things is with the crontab
(man crontab).
Just add "onbar -b -w -L 0" into the "informix" user's crontab, or do a small
script that will do it for you.
My script mail me if the backup fail...
