Error in oninit -v
User couldn't start IDS 11.50 (Express Edition) on SuSE 10.2: oninit -v gave "Fatal error in shared memory initialization". Posters asked for the online.log, which showed the root chunk /opt/IBM/informix/dbspaces/rootdbs lacked proper ownership/permissions. Fix: chown informix:informix and chmod 660 on the chunk file, then retry. Also suggested: create online.con (or make the directory writable by informix) to stop the CONSOLE warning, and remove the unsupported DRLOSTFOUND/DRIDXAUTO parameters from onconfig.

Execute the command "onstat -m "
It will show the 20 last lines of message log file
else execute command " onstat -c|grep MSGPATH" and open the file that
MSGPATH points to and check the contents and let us know.It will help us to
understand the problem better.

It pretty obvious from the log then isn't it !!
chown informix:informix /opt/IBM/informix/dbspaces/rootdbs
chmod 660 /opt/IBM/informix/dbspaces/rootdbs
and try again, preferably after reading the first part of the admin
guide and/or reference :-))
ps. You might also want to touch /opt/IBM/informix/online.con as
informix, or make /opt/IBM/informix writable by informix
pps. you maight also want to remove the DR parameters from your
onconfig file, although this is less essential.
